Organisers of the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show have announced that no fewer than 22 world premieres, a total of 56 vehicle debuts and almost 30 press conferences will take place on show’s two press days -- November 20 and 21.
This will be in addition to the inaugural Connected Car Expo, to be held in a dedicated area of the Los Angeles Convention Center on November 19, when a number of technology announcements will also be made.
Porsche, BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, MINI, Subaru and Toyota are among the brands now confirmed to stage international debuts at the LA show, despite the fact this year’s annual show opens on the same day as the bi-annual Tokyo show in 2013.
In addition to staging the simultaneous world debuts of the all-new Macan mid-size SUV in both LA and Tokyo, it’s now been confirmed Porsche will reveal two other new models for the first time in LA.
However, they won’t be the either the redesigned 911 Targa, which will be available in standard and Targa S guises for the first time and should first appear at Detroit in January, or the new GTS versions of the Boxster and Cayman, which will be launched next April. Plans for all three new models were revealed at a US dealer conference last week.
Instead, motoring.com.au understands Porsche will stage the international motor show debut of both the nnew 911 Turbo and Turbo S Cabriolet models, which go on sale in Australia next April – around the same time as the Macan.
MINI has previously revealed its third-generation hatch will also make simultaneous world public debuts at LA and Tokyo, two days after it is presented at the Oxford plant in the UK on November 18.
Apart from showing the GLA 250 and S 63 AMG in North America for the first time, Mercedes-Benz will hold no fewer than four world debuts. With Benz keeping its powder dry for its redesigned C-Class until next year, our bet would be on production versions of the GLA 45 AMG, S 500 PHEV and S 65 AMG, plus the facelifted M-Class or perhaps S-Class Cabriolet or CLA Shooting Brake concepts.
With Subaru reportedly planning to stage the twin global reveals of its redesigned WRX and WRX STI sports sedans, rounding out the list of known LA debuts – for now – is the Nismo Juke RS and a Nismo concept vehicle from Nissan.
The list of North American debuts to be staged at LA includes the BMW 4 Series Coupe, i8, i3, 5 Series Sedan and 5 Series Gran Turismo, plus the Jaguar C-X17, Cadillac Escalade, three vehicles from Volkswagen including the e-Golf and five from Audi.
Show organisers say this year’s LA extravaganza will also host more than two dozen green vehicles from Acura, BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen, while nearly 20 luxury vehicle debuts are expected from the likes of BMW, Mercedes and Maserati. Between them, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Subaru, Volkswagen and Volvo will reveal luxury concepts.
“As one of the world's largest media hubs and car buying markets, Los Angeles offers a unique combination of press exposure and valuable consumer contact,” said LA Auto Show President, Lisa Kaz.
“The LA Auto Show's consistent growth and commitment to remaining on the forefront of automotive technology, green innovation and automotive design will certainly be noticed with 2013's roster of major debuts.”
