The limelight might have been reserved for Macan, but a faster, more traditional Porsche sports-car also debuted at Los Angeles.
With an able rump, and even more ample horsepower, the 911 Turbo Cabriolet, plus its 911 Turbo S Cabriolet counterpart, were also LA debutantes for the German marque. They take the 911 soft-top model line-up count to four.
Featuring the same engines and four-wheel-drive PDK running gear as the Turbo and Turbo S coupes, the new Cabriolets “deliver the same blend of dynamism, performance and efficiency” says Porsche.
The Turbo’s turbocharged 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine delivers 383 kW, while the S bumps that number to 412. The cars accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 3.5 and 3.2sec respectively, reaching a top speed of up to 318 km/h. The new cabriolets are also “up to 15% more efficient’ when compared to the outgoing models.
The new cabriolets feature active aerodynamics and were developed in “unison” with their coupe counterparts. That is with the exception of the magnesium-framed soft-top. This is electrically operated and can be opened or closed at speeds of up to 50km/h in around 13 seconds.
Porsche Cars Australia has already announced local pricing for the Turbo and Turbo S cabriolets which arrive Down Under in the second quarter of 2014. The PDK-only Turbo and Turbo S Cabriolets are priced at $388,800 and $463,100.
With the debut of the Turbo and Turbo S Cabriolet, just one 911 family member remains to be shown in public – the born again Targa, which ironically is set for debut in the icy realms of Detroit in January.
