LA MOTOR SHOW: Ford boosts Mustang

Ford warms up to reveal racier version of new Mustang next Monday

Ford has released the fourth in a series of five teaser videos previewing a new "performance sports car" that's expected to be a new track-focussed GT350 version of the new Mustang.

The fifth and final teaser video will be released on the morning of November 17 (4:00am Tuesday Sydney time), before the car is officially revealed later that day and makes its public debut at the Los Angeles motor show on November 19.

Ford is yet to reveal any firm details about the new model, but details like Brembo brakes, Recaro seats, leather trim and carbon-fibre trimmings can clearly be seen, and US reports have speculated it will be powered by a 5.2-litre V8.

However, Ford makes reference to forced induction in at least one of the videos, so our best guess is that it will be powered by a version of the supercharged 465kW 5.0-litre V8 seen in the King Cobra Mustang at the SEMA aftermarket show in Las Vegas last week.

Producing 465kW, the 'Super Pack' was developed by Roush Performance and will soon be available as an official Ford Racing package from Ford dealers in the US, for owners of the 5.0-litre V8-equipped Mustang GT, which won't arrive in Australia until late next year.

From what little can be seen of the car's exterior, it will look significantly different from the standard Mustang coupe, at least at the front.

What's really exciting about this car is the proportional change we made and we've really enhanced that proportional change," says Ford's Vice-President of Global Design, Moray Callum, in the latest clip.

"We've lowered the hood, we've widened the front track — all things that designers love to do but at the same time this has actually enhanced the performance as well."
