LA MOTOR SHOW: Ford fends off 'future Falcon' fishing
Ford COO-in-waiting offers Aussie media zero satisfaction in the unending quest for a committed answer to Falcon's futureFord COO Mark Fields has clearly been worded up on how to handle any questions from the Australian media concerning the future of local manufacturing and the Falcon and Territory.
Present for the North American launch of the 2014 Fiesta, which literally revolved around yet another outstanding display of Ken Block's pedal-and-wheel work to introduce the Fiesta ST, Mr Fields was asked specifically about Ford's manufacturing commitment in Australia.
The Ford boss side-stepped the question with an answer that sounded rehearsed, if not quite learned by rote.
"Well I think we made some announcement recently about investing in some next-generation products in our operations down in Broadmeadows ... and as we said... those investments take place in 2014 for vehicles, obviously, in 2016.
“No more news to share at this point, but I think it's a good affirmation of our presence in Australia."
A follow-up question about twinning Falcon and Mustang to effect economic synergies met with an anodyne response.
"We're always looking at opportunities, but nothing to talk about, at this point," he concluded.
