The Porsche Taycan GTS has been unveiled as the newest member of the German car-maker’s electric sedan range at the LA Auto Show.
Priced from $237,000 plus on-road costs and due to arrive in Australia in the second quarter of next year, the 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS will slot into the local range between the Taycan 4S and Taycan Turbo.
The sportiest Taycan sedan variant evenly splits those models on both price and power, with a maximum output of 440kW. Torque matches the Turbo at 850Nm.
Capable of hitting 100km/h in a claimed 3.7 seconds, the Taycan GTS is described as the “sporty sweet spot of the Taycan range” on account of its performance-affordability ratio, not to mention its enhanced chassis characteristics.
Coming as standard with the familiar adaptive air suspension, the Taycan GTS’ system has been tweaked to deliver sharper handling dynamics and enhance the already fierce grip levels, with the optional rear-wheel steering system also coming in for a more focused retune.
As with Porsche’s other GTS models, the Taycan GTS’ sportier disposition is reflected in its angrier exterior styling, including blacked-out mirror caps, wheels and front bumper and window trims.
For those who struggle with subtlety, GTS badges are fixed to the tailgate and side skirts.
The sportier theme continues within the cabin too with various ‘Black Race-Tex features’, embossed GTS logos on the seats and a black bushed aluminium interior package.
According to Taycan model line vice-president Kevin Giek, the Taycan range now offers something for everyone, having steadily grown since its debut back in 2019.
In addition to five variants of the Taycan sedan, plus the Taycan Cross Turismo crossover wagon, Porsche is expected to soon release a traditional Taycan Sport Turismo wagon derivate of its first EV.
“I am particularly pleased that we now also have a Taycan with the legendary GTS moniker,” he said.
“It is positioned above the Taycan 4S and below the Taycan Turbo derivatives, so it represents a real sweet spot in the range.”
Porsche Cars Australia has confirmed it will release the full local specifications for the Taycan GTS closer to its market arrival next year.
