LA MOTOR SHOW: Porsche to reveal Cayman GT4 Clubsport racer
German car-maker to create race car out of Cayman GT4. Keeps 283kW 3.8-litre flat-six but gets PDK dual clutch 'boxPorsche has confirmed it will unveil a new, even more hardcore of the Cayman coupe at the LA motor show in November.
Called the Cayman GT4 Clubsport, the race car is based on the current GT4 road car but comes with Porsche’s faster shifting PDK dual clutch transmission.
Sharing the road car’s 283kW 3.8-litre flat-six engine, thanks to the addition of the faster PDK ‘box, the race car is expected to be significantly quicker than the road legal version and sprint to 100km/h in less than 4.0 seconds.
Top speed, meanwhile, is expected to be around 295km/h - the same as the regular GT4, although it could be less because of an unique aero specially developed for the track.
Other changes, from the standard GT4 , is the race car will come with lightweight front suspension from the 911 GT3 Cup race car and a FIA-approved full welded-in roll cage.
All-in the Clubsport will weight just 1300kg.
Porsche says it plans to homologate the car for different sportscar racing championships around the world including the Pirelli World Challenge, the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and club races run by the Porsche Club of America.
Sadly, there are no plans to make a road-legal version, although the fact that the race car is called ‘Clubsport’ instead of ‘RS’ has led many to speculate at GT4 RS is only a matter of time.
