LA MOTOR SHOW: Range Rover SVAutobiography

Range Rover’s most expensive model takes the floor

Range Rover has revealed what appears to be its most luxurious model yet, the 2018 SVAutobiography LWB.

With next-level luxury features extending to 1.2 metres of rear leg room, integrated fridges, hot stone massage and a ‘digital butler’ within the infotainment system, the updated Rangie goes on sale in the UK as the dearest model yet from the British marque (£177,000).

It won't share the same distinguished title in Australia, though, coming in marginally below the current $373,611 flagship. Instead, Range Rover has opened the order books at $372,400 (plus on-road costs).

Unveiled ahead of this week’s LA motor show, the flagship cocoons occupants in absolute opulence.

Along with aforementioned features, a pair of 10-inch high definition touchscreens hooked up to onboard Wi-Fi project images to rear seat occupants, and there are electronically-assisted rear tables. Even the rear doors will close themselves to spare users the effort.

The rear seats themselves are heated and can recline to a maximum of 40 degrees. Naturally, they feature calf and foot rests.

An extended centre console runs the length of the passenger area and features heating and cooling controls for rear passengers. Further back, customers can now spec a ‘Power Deployable Veneered Loadspace Floor’ to assist with loading and unloading items from the boot.

The in-car smarts are matched by both efficiency and muscle underneath the bonnet.

Two powertrains will be offered in the SVAutobiography locally: a 250kW/740Nm 4.4-litre V8 diesel,  and the flagship 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol, now offering 416kW of power (up from 405kW) and 700Nm.

A third powertrain, a plug-in hybrid comprising a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and an electric motor - offering a 51km electric range and claimed fuel use of 2.8L/100km - will not be offered locally, according to stakeholders.

Jaguar Land Rover Australia will release full pricing and specification details closer to the vehicle’s launch.

Land Rover will also use the LA show to debut the 18MY Range Rover Sport SVR, the V8-powered Discovery SVX and plug-in hybrid versions of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.
