Lamborghini: Combustion power to stick around beyond 2030

Synthetic fuels and further electrification to prolong the life of Lamborghini V8 and V12 engines

Lamborghini has reaffirmed its commitment to combustion power despite many of its stablemates within the Volkswagen Group moving to become an all-electric brands.

Speaking to German weekly newspaper Welt am Sonntag, Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann warned not to write-off the combustion engine and that new technologies would prolong its life.

"After hybridisation, we will wait to see whether it will be possible to offer vehicles with an internal combustion engine beyond 2030," he said.

"One possibility would be to keep combustion engine vehicles alive via synthetic fuels."

The comments suggesting there's still a bright future for combustion powertrains comes less than a month after the Italian supercar brand confirmed it would roll out its first all-electric model before the end of this decade.
