Lamborghini confirms 'everyday' supercar

The Lambo CEO officially acknowledged the development of a third supercar, but this one might be more of a 'disgruntled' rather than 'raging' bull

Lamborghini is known for its uncompromising sports cars, so designed that you need double-jointed hips and/or spine to get in and out of them. But that could be set to change as the Sant'Agata company all but confirms a new 'everyday' supercar.

During the Reuters Global Luxury and Fashion Summit in Paris, the CEO of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann confirmed that: ''We are going to have a third model; it has to be an everyday car. We want to have a car which is able to be used on a daily basis.''

Joining the two vehicles in Lamborghini's stable, currently the V12-powered Aventador and the V10-engined Gallardo, the third vehicle in the Italian niche car maker's line-up may be based on the Estoque concept car first revealed at the 2008 Paris motor show.

Even if Lamborghini flicks the switch to develop a four-door 'everyday' car akin to the Porsche Panamera or Ferrari FF, the vehicle wouldn't be likely to see the light of day for another few years at the very least, meaning that drivers eager to transport the family around in a Lambo could be waiting until 2015 or later.

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann didn't specify if the vehicle would be a four-door family vehicle, only an 'everyday' car, though speculation is rife that the third model will be a Porsche Panamera rival, a vehicle of which would increase the Italian company's sales significantly.

It's unlikely that the sports car maker will develop an 'everyday' high performance hot hatch.

In the past Lamborghini has discussed the possibility of using diesel or even hybrid powertrains, but modified versions of its existing V10 and V12 engines shouldn't be ruled out either.
