Lamborghini has confirmed what we were all secretly hoping for – that the reborn Lamborghini Countach supercar will be fitted with a V12 engine.
In a trio of new teaser images released on social media, the Italian marque has provided a glimpse of the engine bay for the most anticipated supercar in recent memory, as well as a look at the signature wedge-shaped front-end styling, gaping air intakes and fuel filler cap.
The images confirm the Countach, which will return to market some five decades after the Italian supercar-maker revealed its original Countach concept, will indeed employ 12 bustling cylinders together with a profile that closely resembles the original poster car.
While we don’t know the exact outputs of the anticipated 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12, it is expected to be the last vehicle from the House of the Raging Bull to feature 48-volt supercapacitor-assistance technology to boost performance and lower emissions.
In the similarly-equipped Lamborghini Sian Roadster, the technology produces an incredible 602kW and equates to a 0-100km/h sprint of less than 2.9 seconds.
Thereafter, Lamborghini is set to introduce plug-in hybrid V12 power, with the next-generation Lamborghini Aventador due in 2023 said to be first cab off the rank.
With the second teaser in less than a week, speculation is the born-again Lamborghini Countach will make its world debut at this weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Car-makers often recount the historic success of a model to promote its new-generation successor, and in recent weeks Lamborghini has also released regular videos recalling five decades of Countach models in the lead-up to its 50th anniversary.
