Lamborghini Huracan price drop?

Leaked information reveals next-gen Lambo could be more affordable than slower, older Gallardo

The new Lamborghini Huracan can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.2 seconds, significantly quicker than the Gallardo's 3.7 seconds. And it may end up delivering more bang for fewer bucks too.

Although the recent customer launch of the V10-powered Lamborghini Huracan in Australia was a top secret affair, with all mobile phones confiscated before well-heeled potential customers entered, motoring.com.au's secret squirrels managed to obtain the official options list.

While not particularly exciting in itself, it's interesting to note how the Huracan's option prices compare to the Gallardo's.

If you want a suede steering wheel on the current model Gallardo for example, it's a $1353 outlay. On the upcoming Huracan it's just $995.

The same goes for a five-year extended warranty, which is $14,191 with the Gallardo but will be $13,035 when the Huracan arrives here in mid 2014.

Even with a 33 per cent luxury car tax tacked on, it would reasonable to assume based on the comparison of options prices that the new Huracan LP610-4 will be cheaper than its predecessor, the Gallardo LP560-4, which is currently pegged at $455,000.

However its arch-nemesis, the Ferrari 458 Italia, is priced at $525,417, which does give the Lambo plenty of wiggle room, particularly as the new Huracan can brag quicker acceleration.

The Huracan will make its motor show debut at the Geneva motor show in March, and is propelled by a mid-mounted 5.2-litre V10 engine that belts out 448kW at 8250rpm and 560Nm at 6500rpm.

And if you really want to show off the car's rapidly-beating heart, there's a transparent engine cover with carbon forged engine bay for a cool $9875.

Other options include the matt black 'Nero Nemesis' exterior finish, priced at $19,750. And it would be folly not to add the anti stone chip film too, just $4500.
