Lamborghini to reveal its first EV next week

Prototype version of Raging Bull brand’s first all-electric model will be shown during Monterey Car Week at Pebble Beach

The world will get its first look at Lamborghini’s battery-electric future next week, when the Italian performance vehicle brand debuts a prototype version of its first dedicated EV during Monterey Car Week in California.

An exact date and time for the big reveal hasn’t been set, yet but the iconic US motoring festival will span August 18-20, culminating in the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance next Sunday.

Details of the first electric Lambo remain notoriously thin on the ground since the project was announced in 2021, but executives have previously hinted the company’s ‘fourth model’ will be a high-riding 2+2-seat grand tourer.

“If we look at what is missing today in the Lamborghini line-up, then it’s the 2+2; the GT idea,” Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann told Australian media in January last year.

“We would like to combine this with a better ground clearance so to have a more modern approach and a body style which is a bit different to what we have seen so far.”

The 2+2 body style has been a focal point of Lamborghini concept vehicles for decades now, with more recent and notable examples including the striking Estoque (2008) and the electrified Asterion (2014, pictured), but you have to go all the way back to the 1970s Urraco to find a production 2+2 from Lamborghini.

Production of the Raging Bull brand’s inaugural EV is set to start in 2028 and the ground-breaking model will more than likely be based around the upcoming Scalable Systems Platform (SSP) largely being developed by Audi and Porsche, from which Bentley will also leverage its first-ever EV in 2026.

Given Porsche is now a key stakeholder in Rimac and arguably leading the VW Group’s high-performance EV charge, it’s reasonable to assume the Lambo EV will pack close to 1000kW, if not more, making it the most powerful model ever seen from the supercar-maker.

The ground-breaking EV will in turn pave the way for the second-generation Lamborghini Urus to make its all-electric debut in 2029, probably rewriting the hyper-SUV rulebook in the process.

For the time being, all eyes will be on Monterey for the preliminary global debut of Lamborghini’s first EV, so watch this space for all the details.
