The official headlining figures of Lamborghini’s 50th birthday present to itself are impressive; the Veneno roadster can devour the 0-100 km/h dash in a scintillating 2.9 seconds and then scream to a top speed of a rather lofty 355km/h. However, that’s only 5 km/h more than the Aventador on which the Veneno is based and for over 11 times the price.
So what do buyers get for their money? Well, such turn of speed is provided courtesy of a stonking 552kW 6.5-litre V12, and an all wheel drive system and ISR transmission ensure the car’s swift progress.
Exclusivity aside, motoring.com.au has previously reported that only nine Venenos will be made – Lamborghini promises mega rich customers exquisite craftsmanship. A large portion of the car is fashioned from carbon-fibre reinforced polymer, it's angular exterior delivering the “aerodynamic efficiency of a racing prototype [for] the road.”
The front of the radically styled and light-weight body acts as an aerodynamic wing and the rear quarters are said to pay homage to a number of cars from the racing world. The body sits atop a monocoque chassis that works in conjunction with F1-style pushrod suspension to help serve up a race-like feel. Bespoke wheels are designed to funnel air to cool the carbon ceramic brakes.
A material Lamborghini has dubbed “CarbonSkin” adorns the cockpit covering the headliner, portions of the seats – which are fashioned from the supercar maker’s signature Forged Composite – with the monocoque chassis exposed around the central tunnel and the sills, all in a move to keep weight down.
Speaking of weight, the Veneno tips the scales at 1490 kilograms (dry weight), which translates to a power to weight ratio of around 370 kilowatts per tonne, or 1.99 kilograms per horsepower.
Lamborghini promises this car is a true roadster. In fact, it even does away with any form of roof – a roll-over bar has been incorporated to reduce injury - so perhaps this is a roadster for only fine sunny days.
All Lamborghini Veneno roadsters will be finished in a special “Rosso Veneno” paintwork, although customers will be able to tailor their extravagant new purchase to their own specific taste. There is no word whether any of the super Lambos will make it to Australia.
