The inaugural plug-in hybrid 2024 Land Rover Defender 110 P400e will make its Australian debut this week at SXSW Sydney – a world-famous creative industries festival being held outside of the US for the first time.
Joining the first Defender PHEV in Australia for the first time will be the Defender House curation of exclusive events and experiences designed to enhance and enrich the Defender-owning lifestyle, which in this case will offer potential customers a unique test drive of the new PHEV as well as hands-on connectivity walk-throughs with product experts.
We don’t yet know how many Defender 110 P400e vehicles will be on hand for test drives at SXSW Sydney, but we do know the electrified off-roader will retail for $139,300 plus on-road costs when the first customer cars arrive here next month.
Outputting 297kW/640Nm courtesy of its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and single electric motor, Land Rover is claiming the Defender 110 P400e will be the most capable plug-in hybrid off-roader on the market given it pairs the Defender’s well-proven off-road arsenal with the immediate and low-end torque of an electric motor.
It’s pretty handy on-road too, dispatching the 0-100km/h sprint in a claimed 5.6 seconds and sipping just 3.4L/100km on the WLTP cycle thanks to its advertised 52km of electric driving range.
CO2 emissions are pegged at 74g/km and, unlike other PHEVs, the Defender 110 P400e can be DC fast-charged, with a 50kW charger claimed to yield a 0-80 per cent charge in 30 minutes, while a 7kW AC wallbox is said to deliver a full charge from empty in 2.5 hours.
Described as the world’s most iconic futurist conference and festival, SXSW Sydney runs over October 15-22 and the Defender activities will take place between 8:00am and 4:00pm this Thursday (Oct 19) at Machine Hall, 183 Clarence St, Sydney.
