Land Rover will reportedly unleash a second V8-powered model in its new Land Rover Defender line-up in 2022 with the release of the much-anticipated SVR flagship.
According to MotorTrend, the British car-maker is purportedly developing its own rival to the Mercedes-AMG G 63 by way of a 2022 Land Rover Defender SVR in both 90 and 110 body styles.
The power fillip is set to come courtesy of BMW’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 – the same engine that powers the superlative BMW M5 Competition – under an alliance between the two car-makers.
MotorTrend is citing a familiar 447kW power output for the Defender SVR and, of course, all-wheel drive underpinnings.
It said the driveline’s ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission would be recalibrated to match the bump in performance, while the top-shelf Defender will adopt more road-going tuning of its brakes and suspension.
The latest news on the SVR version comes just a week after the launch of the new Land Rover Defender V8 (pictured), which uses the company’s long-serving supercharged 5.0-litre V8 (386kW/650Nm).
Asked about the prospects of an SVR version of new Defender, Jaguar Land Rover Australia managing director Mark Cameron told carsales earlier this month that “we do not have any information about any SV version of a Defender or what features it may or may not include”.
