Land Rover Australia has sponsored a 60th anniversary event organised by marque clubs in Victoria, NSW and the ACT.
The Easter weekend event, based in and around Cooma in New South Wales, attracted 1300 visitors and participants from all over Australia and overseas. 750 vehicles also took part, with 560 of them forming a Grand Parade along the main street of Cooma.
Cooma was chosen for its proximity to the Snowy River hydro-electric scheme, the construction of which helped forge the Land Rover's reputation in Australia for ruggedness and reliability -- as it did 10 years later for the Toyota LandCruiser...
Over the course of the weekend, the clubs ran a concours -- won by a 2001 Defender 130 converted to a camper -- as well as motorkhanas and observation trials.
"It was fantastic to see so many enthusiasts celebrating this company's anniversary together, and what makes it even more special is that we are here, in Cooma, the birth place of the Land Rover legend in Australia," said Roger Jory, Land Rover Australia's General Manager.
Land Rover celebrates its 60th anniversary on April 30, just weeks after the official announcement from the Ford Motor Company that the British manufacturer would be sold to Indian company Tata.
