Land Rover releases top oiler for Vogue

Super powerful and efficient diesel engine refines Vogue for the new model year

Land Rover has launched the 11MY Range Rover Vogue with its new "super diesel" engine. The 4.4-litre V8 turbodiesel replaces the 3.6-litre version in the 10MY Range Rover Vogue and Sport models.

Land Rover Australia has yet to determine pricing for the new Vogue diesel offering but expect a five-figure premium over the 3.6-litre model, for around $170K. LRA says the MLP will be announced closer to the Vogue's local launch: late November at the earliest.

The 4.4-litre engine boasts significant gains in power and torque -- 230kW and 700Nm -- over the outgoing diesel engine's 200kW/640Nm. The new engine is also more efficient, achieving the brand's first sub-10 litre consumption rating, at 9.4. The 3.6-litre wanted 11.1L/100km.

The new engine is matched to a smooth-operating eight-speed transmission with paddle shift control. The new ZF box is the first eight-speeder LR has applied to its vehicles and is partly responsible for the reduction in fuel consumption.

Gains in efficiency have also come by way of ceramic glow plugs rather than the 3.6-litre's steel versions, and enhanced Idle Transmission Control function which disengages 70 per cent of drive while idling and stationary.

The brand's well-regarded Terrain Response four-wheel-drive system now features ascent acceleration control.

New model year changes include significant rear accommodation upgrades, which give the Vogue limousine-like credentials. Adjustable (reclining) seating, with heating, cooling, winged head restraints and lumbar support, and privacy glass are now offered. The standard-fit climate control system works to great effect throughout the cabin and rear passengers can adjust settings.

A large electrically opened and closed sunroof also comes standard, and extends generously over the second row, making the big wagon's cabin even more inviting and luxurious.

The 11MY Range Rover Vogue comes with a choice of five new alloy wheel designs and an optional exterior design pack offering eight colours. The exterior package was designed to allow customers more "personalisation" of their Vogue, says LR.

Exterior updates are slight, with the 10MY Range Rover introducing the major restyle such as LED head and taillights. The 11MY Vogues sport a new grille and the new diesel model can be identified by new side vents.

The 11MY Vogue is expected in local showrooms by December this year. Visit the Carsales Network again for our full launch review.
