Australia Post has released a 'Pre-stamped envelope set' (PSE) entitled 'Driving through the Years', featuring some of the vehicles that have played a key part in opening up the country over the last ninety years.
Someone with catholic tastes chose the subject vehicles, which comprise a 1917 Ford model T truck, FE Holden, Morris Minor, HX Holden Sandman -- and FJ60 Toyota LandCruiser.
For Toyota, it's an acknowledgement of the LandCruiser's iconic status in our broad, brown land.
Over half a million LandCruisers have been sold in Australia since the model's original introduction in 1958. Australians have bought more than 10 per cent of all LandCruisers ever built and Australia is the second largest market in the world for the Toyota SUV.
The FJ60 model featured was introduced in the early eighties and continued right through that decade until the advent of the more modern 80 Series LandCruiser in 1990.
Generations of state and federal government employees working for water, power and telecommunication authorities were bumped around from pillar to post in 60 Series 'Cruisers, so it's fitting that the vehicle in question be honoured by one of Australia's better known utilities.
The PSE can be purchased from Australia Post for $3.00 by calling 1800 331 794 or browsing here.
