The 2025 Deepal S09 has been revealed ahead of its global release later this year.
The large three-row SUV is pitched as an answer to the Nissan Pathfinder, Hyundai Palisade and Volvo XC90, and could line-up alongside the Tesla Model Y-rivalling Deepal S07 if it gets the green light for our market.
Unlike its smaller BEV sibling, the S09 comes with a range-extender hybrid that combines a 110kW 1.5-litre petrol engine with either a single or pair of e-motors.
With the latter, maximum power is said to be 362kW while an unspecified CATL-sourced lithium iron phosphate battery (LFP) provides for an electric driving range of up to 180km.
Measuring in at 5205mm long, 1996mm wide and standing 1800mm tall, the S09 is as big as the longest Range Rover and thanks to the Deepal’s stretched 3105mm wheelbase, space within should be generous.
Inside the luxurious cabin there’s two huge dual-touchscreens that stretch across the dash and are said to be powered by components sourced from Huawei, while other highlights include a sliding centre console, a pair of captain’s chairs in the second row.
The centre console can be slid as far back as the third row and includes a 10-litre storage box that can be chilled to -6 degrees Celcius or heated to 50 degrees help to keep your takeaway warm on the drive home.
On top is a wireless charging pad, plus controllers for the second and third-row climate control.
Predictions are that when the Deepal S09 arrives on sale in China it will be priced from 350,000 Chinese yuan, which translates to an asking price of around $A80,000.
There’s no word on whether Deepal’s importer Inchcape (also responsible for Subaru and Peugeot) has any desires to bring the flagship SUV Down Under, but the Chinese brand’s local outfit has already expressed an interest in the smaller S05 SUV.
