Larger Fiat 500X, Jeep Renegade on the way

Fiat and Jeep will follow up the 500X and Renegade with a new, bigger rival for the Nissan QASHQAI

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is working on a pair of larger new SUV models built on the same platform as the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade, according to British car magazine Autocar.

As well as the platform, both the Fiat and Jeep will share components and even be built alongside each other to save costs.

In addition to the new QASHQAI competitors, Autocar reports that Fiat plans to offer a super-cheap rival to Dacia’s Sandero instead of a more traditional Ford Focus or Volkswagen Golf rival. Based on the Fiat 500L platform, it’s rumoured the Fiat Bravo replacement could be built in Turkey to keep costs down.

Recently at the Geneva motor show FCA boss Sergio Marchionne admitted Fiat had given up attempting to be a “mass-market brand” and would no longer try to offer a “full range” of models.
