Last Dodge Viper set for Nurburgring record
GoFundMe campaign to reinstate Viper as Nurburgring’s fastest production car approaches climaxA GoFundMe campaign to reinstate the Dodge Viper ACR as the fastest production car around the Nurburgring is about to reach crunch time.
A group of campaigners, with the help of Kumho tyres and Michigan design company Prefix, is at the famed German circuit testing two Viper ACR GTS-R commemorative edition cars ahead of an official record attempt.
The group has been testing at the 20.8km circuit since July 19 with the aim of re-instating the Viper as the world’s fastest production car, eclipsing recent records from the Nio EP9 electric car (6:45.9 minute) and Lamborghini Huracan Performante (6:52 minutes).
Dodge has previously set two records in the previous-generation Viper ACR, but never went back with the very last instalment because the Viper is being discontinued. So in January, the enthusiasts took matters into their own hands.
A video on the group’s Facebook page said the only mechanical issue had been an overheating problem that was solved with the installation of a new thermostat.
Running two vehicles has allowed the team to run different suspension configurations in order to net the best time possible. The group says it will run the same arrangement on both cars in the official run.
