The all-electric MG ZS EV has officially gone on sale in Australia, priced from $46,990 drive-away. That figure undercuts the Hyundai Kona Electric by more than $13,000.
But there's a snag; the pricing will only be offered to the first 100 buyers to leave a deposit on the new, battery-electric SUV.
It's a tactic the brand has already rolled out across the Tasman, where the first 50 buyers have been offered the chance of owning the new EV for $49,990 in Kiwi currency.
Peter Ciao, CEO of MG Motor Australia, made the announcement today, at the opening of Sydney City MG.
“Sydney City MG provides us with a critical touch point in a metro area and an opportunity to gain better insights into and have closer, direct proximity to our customer.
“This important milestone will enable MG to continue to test, learn and evolve products and services that appeal to our customer base which includes our first ever electric vehicle, the ZS EV, now available to order in Australia, with a pre-sale pricing offer of $46,990,” Ciao said via a media release.
Driven briefly in China earlier this year, the MG ZS EV is powered by an electric motor rated at 105kW and 353Nm. Its 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack is water-cooled and promises a WLTP range of up to 262km.
In addition to the special drive-away pricing, the MG ZS EV is offered with a seven-year/160,000km warranty, with the battery covered for seven years also.
Standard features will include a panoramic sunroof, an eight-inch infotainment touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, six-speaker audio and satellite navigation.
