The Finer Details

LDV says customer demand prompted the return of diesel power, which disappeared from the D90 range around two years ago.

The new engine is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel shared with the LDV Terron 9 and updated T60 ute ranges. It produces 163kW and 520Nm, eclipsing the outputs of the previous D90 diesel's 2.0-litre engine, which delivered 160kW and 480Nm.

An eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive are standard on diesel models, while fuel consumption is rated at 8.1L/100km. Maximum braked towing capacity has increased to 3500kg, up from 3100kg previously.

Petrol power remains available through a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 184kW and 410Nm, offered in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations.

The biggest addition alongside the diesel's return is the new D90 Luxe flagship. Available exclusively with the diesel engine, it adds a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, JBL premium audio system, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, 20-inch alloy wheels on Continental tyres, front and rear differential locks, and a hands-free power tailgate.

LDV Australia general manager Dinesh Chinnappa said customers had been asking for both the return of diesel power and a higher-specification flagship model.

The Road Ahead

The return of diesel power brings the D90 into closer alignment with key rivals such as the Toyota Prado, Ford Everest and Isuzu MU-X, all of which rely heavily on diesel sales. With more torque, improved towing capability and a broader model range, LDV will be hoping the updated D90 can strengthen its position in Australia's competitive seven-seat SUV segment.
