Leaked: 2020 Toyota HiLux exposed

, who posted the images late last night on Instagram, caught the updated Toyota HiLux but these first images suggest that it won't wear the angry front-end design seen on previously leaked renderings in April.But the midlife refresh for the current Toyota HiLux, which was first introduced back in 2015, does inject plenty of visual aggression via a dominant elongated hexagonal front grille with large horizontal slats and a bold chrome surround, flanked by revised headlights.
The hockey stick-shaped side air intakes, meanwhile, suggest that some work has been done by engineers to hone its aerodynamics.
The replacement for Australia's top-selling vehicle is set to be revealed later today and this leak follows Monday's teaser showing former Formula 1 world champ Fernando Alonso behind the wheel of a prototype HiLux as part of late-stage testing.
Originally due in Australian showrooms in July, the facelifted Ford Ranger rival is now expected to arrive here by September.
When it lands, the updated Toyota HiLux will come with an upgraded 2.8-litre turbo-diesel that will offer more power and finally a fix for the current model’s DPF issues.
There’s no official word, but some reports are suggesting outputs of up to 150kW and 470Nm — up from 130kW/420Nm (450Nm for the auto). Whether the auto's 3200kg towing capacity increases to 3500kg, matching the manual and its chief rivals, remains to be seen.
Other improvements for the best-selling Toyota are expected to include revised suspension and an updated interior with creature comforts like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, which is now commonplace in most family hatchbacks.
The most significant change to the Toyota pick-up in five years is expected to expected to extend its life until it’s replaced in 2024. Beyond that, for the first time, Toyota will introduce a hybrid powertrain for the HiLux.
