Leaked: Aston Martin DBS Superleggera surfaces online
Ferrari 812 Superfast rival caught undisguised by Instagram user at VIP unveil; will get wild twin-turbo V12Aston Martin has become the latest victim of a security breach with an image of its all-new, yet-to-be-seen DBS Superleggera being leaked via Instagram ahead of its official unveiling in the coming weeks.
Created to go head-to-head with cars like the Ferrari 812 Superfast and Lamborghini Aventador S, the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera will wear an evolution of the DB11's design, as suggested by this first picture of its nose.
The large two-door coupe features a pair of slimmer headlights, a striking sculptured bonnet and an aggressive front bumper boasting a huge central grille flanked by two large air intakes.
Underneath the bonnet, it's safe to assume Aston's fastest ever coupe will come powered by a development of the firm's 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 with a towering power output of around 550kW.
Historically, Aston's use of the 'Superleggera' name has been reserved for its most hard-core, track-focused models and it's thought that won't change with the latest DBS.
Expect a shift from the luxurious DB11's comfort bias to something with a far harder edge.
Based on the same bonded and extruded aluminium platform as the DB11, the DBS Superleggera is set to shed a significant amount of mass to enhance performance.
With that level of power, a 0-100km/h time of less than three seconds and a top speed of around 340km/h should be a dead cert.
To help improve its ability on track, the big Aston coupe will come with advanced aerodynamics to allow it to produce more downforce at high speed.
Firmer suspension that sacrifices some ride comfort for better body control will also be on the menu.
Set to be revealed later this month, the DBS Superleggera is expected to go on sale in early 2019. Later that year, a convertible DBS Superleggera Volante will arrive.
Next year will be a pivotal 12 months for the famous British sports car maker. As well as the DBS Superleggera, it will start production of the DBX SUV at the Aston Martin's all-new manufacturing facility in Wales.
As well as a faster V8 Vantage model, the product onslaught will continue in 2021 when the Lagonda brand is relaunched with a pure-electric limousine based on the recent Vision Concept.
In the same year, Aston Martin will also launch a mid-engine rival for the Ferrari 488 GTB that's likely to adopt the established 'Vanquish' name.
