LEAKED: BMW to make an M760Li

Car configurator reveals sporty V12 to join the range. Other markets to also get four-pot limo

Pictures of an all-new sportier flagship version of the new BMW 7 Series have been leaked by the German car-maker’s own car configurator.

The images, grabbed by car blog, Bimmer Today, clearly show a 7 Series with M760Li lettering on the boot lid following a glitch when using the configurator.

This is the first news of a sportier M-tuned version of the luxury limo and the M760Li is likely to be powered by the same 420kW/780Nm 6.6-litre twin-turbo petrol V12 that powers the Rolls Royce Ghost.

If so, expect the fastest 7 Series to sprint from rest to 100km/h in around 4.5 seconds and top out at well over 300km/h without the 250km/h limiter in place.

The M760Li will be a natural rival for the Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG when it goes on sale next year.

The Mercedes-AMG is formidable opposition. Its 463kW/1000Nm twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12 can hurtle the S-Class to 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds before the limiter calls time at 305km/h.

Expect the BMW to match the Mercedes S 65 AMG’s $490,000 price tag.

As well as the big V12, according to Chinese reports, the big 7 Series limousine is also set to get a small entry-level 188kW/350Nm 2.0-litre version. The small turbo-petrol engine is already available with the plug-in hybrid 740e.

In the Chinese market the four-cylinder version will be badged 730Li and be on sale in March 2016.
