Leaked: McLaren 675 RS Spider
Roadster version of the 675 LT appears online ahead of world debut at the 2016 Geneva motor showImages of an all-new McLaren Super Series model have appeared online overnight that’s claimed to be the first pics of a new hardcore convertible variant based on the 675 LT coupe.
The new roadster, said to be called the 675 RS, was revealed on car blog Carscoops.com.
If genuine, the 675 RS is more than likely to share the 675 LT’s 497kW/700Nm twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 engine that, thanks to the seven-speed dual clutch auto’s faster shifts, should see the spider come close to matching the coupe’s 0-100km/h sprint time of 2.9 seconds, despite a small weight penalty over the 675LT.
Like the Longtail coupe the spider is expected to weigh in at least 100kg lighter than the car it’s based, the 650S Spider. The weight-savings come from more widespread use of exotic materials like titanium that’s used both in suspension components and an all-new exhaust system.
From the grainy images, it also appears the 675 RS, like the 675 LT, will have its own bespoke aero package.
If confirmed at the Geneva motor show, McLaren is likely to limit production of the 675 RS to around 500 cars.
Just 15 McLaren 675 LT coupes made it here to Australia, each were priced at a heady $657,000 suggesting that a spider version could command a premium and be priced from an incredible $700,000.
More information is expected following its official reveal at the Geneva show in March 2016.
