The trickle of leaks for the third-generation BMW Z4 has turned into a flood with yet more pictures appearing on the web today.
Due to be unveiled at the Pebble Beach Golf Club in California next week, the 2019 BMW Z4 will be Sydney designer Calvin Luk’s third new-generation BMW model, following the current X1 and X3 models.
Yet leaks keep appearing, dating back to patent images appearing in June to Nurburgring test mules in July and the pictures of the unmasked car earlier this month.
But these new shots are believed to be the actual images BMW is preparing to release at Pebble Beach, showing clearly the new design direction of the two-seat BMW roadster.
A rival to the Audi TT Roadster and Porsche 718 Boxster, the next Z4 will run a shared platform with the Toyota Supra, sitting on a 2470mm wheelbase and exclusively rear-wheel drive.
Based on BMW’s CLAR rear-wheel drive architecture, the new Z4 also shakes up BMW design with vertically stacked round headlights and an all-new narrow L-shaped tail-lights at the back.
It looks to retain its clamshell bonnet design, beneath which it will run both inline turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol engines, as will the 2019 Toyota Supra.
The engine bay photo confirms it will run the 250kW in-line six from the M240i, most likely dubbed Z4 M40i, exclusively with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
It’s expected to run a range of power outputs, but a full-scale M model is not expected to join the line-up.
Expected to be on sale in March or April next year, the new BMW Z4 will make its full public debut during September’s Paris motor show.
