Leaked: Production Citroen C3 Aircross previewed by toy

Citroen's all-new replacement for the C3 Picasso has been leaked online following an image of a toy, thought to have been made to promote its launch in a few months' time, was published online by Autoweek.nl.

In case there was any doubt what we're looking at. The scale model, that's thought to be genuine, handily wears a 'C3 Aircross' number plate and sits upon a plinth with the same name.

From first glances, it suggests the production SUV will stay true to the C-Aircross Concept that was launched in March at the Geneva motor show.

Look closely though and there are some minor changes. The now trademark Airbumps have slimmed down and now live on the very bottom of the doors.

The show car's large wheels have also shrunken and the small SUV has lost its fanciful rear-facing cameras and sprouted a pair of more conventional door mirrors.

Inside, it's not possible to see from the scale model, but the new C3 Aircross is thought to keep the old car's MPV-style modular seating and come with a second row of seats that fold easily into the floor.

Based on the same PF1 platform the recently launched C3 sits on, the C3 Aircross will share the small hatch’s three PureTech triple-cylinder petrol and two BlueHDI diesels that will be combined with PSA’s latest EAT6 automatic transmission.

Developed as part of an alliance with GM, the C3 Picasso will be built in Spain by Opel on the same assembly line as the closely related Crossland X.

On sale in Europe late 2017 it's likely, but not confirmed the C3 Aircross could come to Australia - but only if the C3 hatch proves successful first.
