When the all-new Land Rover Defender was unveiled this week, the British off-road brand also launched a range of novelty items in hope of inspiring more interest in the born-again SUV.
Outdoor clothing, thermal jackets, go-anywhere seam-sealed backpacks, an activity belt with “the world’s safest and strongest buckle” and even high-vis thermal gloves and an oraange multi-tool are part of the new product line-up.
But the most interesting item is a 2573-piece LEGO Technic model of the reincarnated Defender to be available for purchase online from October 1.
Featuring authentic body panels and a host of genuine accessories it will be available with, the two-door Defender 90 model boasts a bunch of functional elements like fully independent suspension, a working winch, four-wheel drive with three differentials and what LEGO Technic says is its most sophisticated gearbox yet.
If LEGO isn’t your thing, Land Rover has partnered with outdoor performance clothing brand Musto to introduce the ‘Above and Beyond Collection’, which is available now.
The range of men’s and women’s clothing includes a Welded Thermo jacket with a reflective antenna to “help rescue teams locate you in difficult terrain”. Perhaps when your Defender gets bogged…
The jacket also features PrimaLoft Aerogel-lined pockets to help keep mobile phones charged for longer.
Another piece in the collection is a hybrid jacket called the YKK Quickburst, which comes with zip technology that allows you to turn it into a vest in a matter of seconds.
Joe Sinclair from Jaguar Land Rover says the new Defender is pushing the boundaries of automotive design.
“We took this as inspiration to work with Musto to create our most advanced, technical and capable performance collection yet,” said Jaguar Land Rover’s Joe Sinclair.
“Our ambition was to launch a specialist range of clothing and equipment that united the world-class capabilities of the Defender with our customers’ thirst for adventure.”
