Lexus confirms UX crossover

Wild Q3-baiting crossover key to younger buying audience

Lexus has confirmed it will build a production version of its wild compact UX SUV concept.

Speaking to carsales.com.au at the Geneva motor show overnight, Lexus International executive vice president Yoshihiro Sawa confirmed a road-going version of the wild 2016 Paris show star was on its way.

Sawa described the vehicle as an important part of the Toyota-owned luxury brand’s plan to chase younger buyers.

“We are doing [UX],” he said. “Please expect UX, it’s not so far away.”

And Lexus’ Audi Q3 rival is a dead certainty for Australia, with the local Lexus division previously making itself clear that it wanted the car.

Sawa confirmed the UX after explaining the need for Lexus to chase a younger buying audience.

“Except IS and small car CT, Lexus owners are aged, when it comes to high-end and high loyalty.

“The loyal users always changing the car but at the same time the average age is going up. But from this year we tried to seek the buyer average that is younger. We try to capture these new younger buyers, so that we change our design ways,” Sawa told carsales.com.au.

Sawa said the UX concept had been a follow-up to the RX and NX cross-overs that had proved popular with younger than traditional Lexus audiences.

“We are kind of confident with the small concept car,” he said.
