Lexus developing twin-turbo V8 for LC F
Japanese car maker insider claims faster, more powerful biturbo engine will help it challenge the BMW M8Lexus is secretly developing a new twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 to replace its naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 that powers the LC 500, it has been revealed.
Claimed to produce in excess of 463kW, according to Japanese car magazine Holiday Auto, the new engine has been created to help the flagship LC F coupe beat the performance of is Mercedes-AMG and BMW M rivals.
Crucially, the gain in performance will come from the new twin-turbo V8's far greater torque figure that will be delivered lower in the rev range compared to current V8.
To compete, the new engine will have to produce more than 750Nm and hit 100km/h in less than 4.0 seconds and top out at more than 300km/h if the big Japanese coupe stands a chance of eclipsing the Mercedes-AMG S63 coupe or the BMW M8.
As well as more power, according to the insider speaking to the Japanese magazine, the current LC F will go on a diet that will see greater user of carbon-fibre reinforced plastics to reduce total weight by around seven per cent.
This should see the fast coupe tip the scales at around 1780kg.
In Japan, according to the source speaking to Holiday Auto, Lexus will price the new LC F above both its Germans rivals.
It's not known when Lexus plans to reveal its flagship LC F but it could be at this March's Geneva motor show.
