Lexus IS250, GS300 recalled
More than 8000 Lexus cars recalled in Australia due to engine issue that could lead to fireLexus Australia has issued a recall for approximately 8300 vehicles built between December 2004 and September 2007, comprising GS and IS models.
In total 1000 Lexus GS300 and 7300 Lexus IS250 vehicles are affected by the recall, which addresses an engine fuel pressure sensor.
The two Lexus models affected are equipped with 2.5-litre (4GR-FSE) and 3.0-litre (3GR-FSE) V6s for which the "fuel pressure sensor connection to the delivery pipe could be insufficient due to improper assembly instructions for tightening the fuel pressure sensor" according to the recall notice.
Over time this could result in a degradation of the "sealing performance of the gasket seated between the fuel pressure sensor and the fuel delivery pipe" according to Lexus.
Worst-case scenario? An increased risk of engine fire.
According to Lexus: "there have been no reported incidents, injuries or vehicle fires reported in Australia as a result of this condition".
As with most vehicle recalls, the manufacturer will contact owners to bring their vehicle to an authorised dealer and have the engine issue repaired.
Lexus says a new fuel pressure sensor gasket fixes the problem, along with tightening the fuel pressure sensor, all of which will take "between three and four hours" at no cost to the owner.
