Lexus LX 570 facelifted for 2016

Heavy-duty luxury SUV gains new eight-speed automatic and driver-assist safety technology

Lexus has released information and images for its updated LX 570 SUV, which is scheduled to make its debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance this weekend.

The manufacturer has made "sweeping" changes to the look of the 200 Series LandCruiser-based SUV, with only the door panels carried over from the previous model year. A revised grille, new LED headlight clusters, fog lights, restyled 20-inch alloy wheels, revised tail lights and rear bumper are the major points of difference from the previous model.

Mechanically the six-speed automatic transmission has been ditched in favour of a new eight-speed automatic that can be reconfigured through the Lexus Drive Mode Select system, which is new to the LX 570. Different operating modes available include Eco, Comfort, Sport S and Sport S+. The Drive Mode Select system also governs damper settings. The 5.7-litre V8 produces 286kW and 546Nm.

New driver-assist technology for the 2016 LX 570 include Tyre Pressure Monitoring, Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Intelligent High Beam (IHB), All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Panoramic View Monitor – an all-round view for parking, off-road driving or backing up to a trailer.

Comfort and convenience features added comprise Remote Touch Interface for the multimedia infotainment system, Climate Concierge – which automatically adjusts fan speeds and temperature settings for the four zones, the seats and the steering wheel – and larger dual screens for the rear-seat entertainment system.

The second-row seating is now provided with heating and ventilation in the Luxury level of trim. USB ports in the second row are new and climate control and audio system switchgear are now located in the armrest.

Woodgrain veneers now available are: Matte Walnut, Linear Dark Mocha, Linear Espresso and Dark Brown Walnut. Other features that have been revised or restyled for the new model year are the larger multi-information display, a restyled analogue clock and the new three-spoke steering wheel. LEDs are the new light source for ambient lighting and the lighting in the cargo area, and the overhead console lighting is now activated by means of a touch sensor.

New standard features that were previously optional include Intuitive Park Assist and SmartAccess System with card key. Lexus Enform for the LX 570 is more comprehensive, providing better smartphone integration and new apps that can lock/unlock doors, remotely start or stop the engine, adjust climate control, locate the vehicle in a parking lot, or set up a guest driver monitor.

Lexus Australia will introduce the new LX 570 to the local market from December of this year, where it will renew its fight for buyers with the Infiniti QX80.
