Lexus will celebrate the decade that has passed since it introduced its first 'F' sports model, the IS F, with two limited-edition models of its high-performance RC F coupe and GS F sedan.
The two cars were revealed at this week's Tokyo motor show and are expected to go on sale in Australia during the second half of 2018, Lexus advises. Numbers for Australia are yet to be confirmed, but they promise to be exclusive, with the company announcing it would build just 50 units each for global consumption.
As for the standard cars, the limited-edition models will be V8-powered, but will also offer uprated dampers at the front. Lexus will offer the two cars with the option of a unique interior colour, 'Heat Blue', and matte grey will feature widely throughout as a coordinating colour.
"These two special versions of our acclaimed RC F coupe and GS F sedan will heighten the performance aura around the Lexus brand with their unique styling, performance features and exclusivity," says Lexus Australia chief executive Peter McGregor.
In Australia the importance of performance badges the likes of AMG and M should not be underestimated. And according to McGregor, the 'F' models in the Lexus range have a brand-enhancing quality too.
"They have raised the sports image of Lexus by creating sports cars that can be enjoyed by anyone who wants to have fun driving, regardless of skill," he said.
Lexus developed the 'F' sub brand in homage to Fuji Speedway in Japan, where a lot of performance vehicle testing is undertaken and the first corner of the track (known as '27R') is represented in the style of the letter.
