Lexus has locked in an April 20 reveal date for its first dedicated electric vehicle, the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e – a battery-electric SUV we’ve actually already seen twice before in concept form – once in December and again in February.
Using the upcoming Toyota bZ4x as its base, the Lexus RZ 450e will no doubt inject more opulence and, if the newest teaser images are anything to go by, could come with a Tesla-style steering yolk as opposed to a traditional steering wheel.
Behind the yolk lies an all-digital cockpit surrounded by integrated and flowing lines, with air vents forming the top rung of the layered dashboard design.
Between the front seats we can see a reasonably raised centre console with a clean design that houses little more than a rotary gear selector and a pair of cup-holders.
Taking pride of place on the dash above the centre console is a large infotainment and HVAC touch-screen featuring an elegant mix of physical and haptic controls.
“The luxury lifestyle brand will use the reveal to share more details about the RZ 450e – the newest model in the Lexus Electrified line-up,” said Lexus Australia in a statement.
“It is the first new model to be unveiled since Lexus announced its vision for battery-powered EVs to make up 100 per cent of its global vehicle sales by 2035.”
Possible rivals for the Lexus RZ 450e already on sale in Australia include the Mercedes-Benz EQA and Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, as well as incoming alternatives like the Tesla Model Y and Polestar 3.
