Lexus RZ 450e SUV revealed in more detail

Upcoming Tesla Model Y rival to form key component in Lexus’ bid to go full electric

Lexus has revealed more detailed images of its first dedicated electric SUV, the Lexus RZ 450e.

When the Lexus RZ 450e was first shown to us in December, it appeared under dim blue lighting that managed to hide the show car’s more intricate features.

Lexus has remedied that overnight with the release of a new image set offering all the shadow lines, design flourishes and gloss you could ever want.

The RZ 450e again bears a slightly toned-down take on the Lexus LF-Z Electrified concept that spawned its development, with conventional headlights and mirrors and smaller wheels.

That said, the raked roofline and signature spindle-esque grille of the concept carries through to the production model.

Likewise, the LF-Z Electrified concept featured a 90kWh battery that provided a 600km range – it’s thought the production version will offer something similar.

Developed alongside the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra, the RZ 450e sits on Toyota’s e-TNGA architecture – a devoted EV platform.

The RZ 450e – interior images of which are yet to be revealed – is expected to go on sale in Europe in the second half of 2022.

An Australian launch is being mooted for the first half of 2023, with the RZ 450e having been trademarked here way back in August 2020.

In Australia, the RZ 450e is likely to be cross-shopped with other small electric SUVs including the Tesla Model Y (when it goes on sale) and Mercedes-Benz EQA.
