Limited-edition Mazda MX-5 to celebrate 30 years of world's favourite roadster
Just 30 examples of the Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary model expected to land in AustraliaMazda Australia will release a special-edition Mazda MX-5 to celebrate the top-selling roadster’s 30th anniversary in the first quarter of the New Year, carsales.com.au has learned.
According to our sources, the all-orange Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary model will be based on the recently updated Roadster GT (soft-top) and limited to just 30 units Down Under.
All examples will be powered by the Mazda MX-5’s zesty 2.0-litre engine, now with 135kW/205Nm, as standard.
However, a special numbered badge will grace the roadster’s console, and owners will receive a matching commemorative watch. Mazda is expected to announce other details closer to the model’s launch.
Pricing is rumoured to reflect the premium asked by previous limited edition roadsters, such as the 2014 Mazda MX-5 25th Anniversary model which retailed from $48,340 (plus on-road costs).
The current (fourth-generation) Mazda MX-5 Roadster GT is priced from $39,400 (plus ORCs) when fitted with the 2.0-litre engine.
Mazda has sold more than a million examples of the MX-5 since the original NA-series went on sale in May 1989.
The current range was streamlined in September this year to include two engine types, two body-styles and two model grades, with low-speed autonomous emergency braking now standard across the range.
Carsales has asked Mazda Australia for comment on the limited-edition MX-5 and will update this story when we know more.
