Limited edition RAV4 Edge

Compact SUVs existed before Toyota's trendy RAV4 arrived on the scene. But they weren't called 'Compact SUVs' in those days. Nor did they get around on a monocoque platform. Driving characteristics were more like a light truck than a high-riding passenger car.

So the RAV4's impact was significant. The Toyota has developed over the years and is just as likely to appeal to families as to singles. It has led the way for the Crossover revolution currently shaking up passenger cars in traditional large and medium sales segments.

Now, Toyota has released a limited edition of the RAV4 to commemorate the nameplate's 15-year history. Priced just $750 above the RAV4 CV on which it's based, the four-cylinder RAV4 Edge adds $2000 worth of features, according to the importer.

These extra features comprise: 17-inch alloy wheels (including spare), reverse-parking sensors with acoustic guidance, roof rails, privacy glass for rear and rear/side windows, a six-stack CD audio system with USB input facility, Bluetooth connectivity, premium steering wheel/gear knob, carpet mats from and rear, plus a badge on the tailgate.

Buyers can specify one of six different colours: Graphite, Silver Pearl, Ebony, Wildfire, Liquid Bronze, and Blue Storm.

The manufacturer's list price for the RAV4 Edge is $34,240, based on the car with the manual transmission. This price doesn't include on-road costs and pre-delivery charge.
