Subaru releases limited number of STI-treated Liberty GTsSubaru is releasing a limited number of MY07 Liberty GT spec.B sedans and wagons with STI upgrades this month.
Starting at $65,990, the Liberty receives a variety of mechanical and cosmetic enhancements including an upgraded electronic control unit producing 10kW more power (194kW) and an increase in torque (up 11Nm) to 350Nm accessible earlier at 2800rpm.
The STI-tuned Libertys are available as manual or auto. The manual models feature a six-speed STI short shift gear lever, while automatics have a revised transmission control unit (TCU) which Subaru says produces a faster, sportier response.
The limited Libertys are shod with 18-inch STI ENKEI alloy wheels with Pirelli P-Zero Rosso rubber and come with Bilstein sports-tuned dampers matched to STI lowered springs, and pillow-ball bush suspension components by STI to help improve steering response, ride and handling.
The Liberty STI upgrade includes STI Brembo performance brakes and twin tip sports mufflers to enhance exhaust flow and provide better turbo response.
Exterior upgrades include an STI front lip spoiler and unique model badging, and the sedan models also feature an STI rear boot spoiler.
Interior features include leather seats (eight-way power adjustable driver's seat with dual memory settings) and 14-speaker McIntosh sound system with six-stack in dash CD/MP3/WMA player.
Subaru Intelligent Drive and a factory fitted sunroof are also standard inclusions.
Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia said: "Our tuned by STI special edition vehicles have been very well received by customers. This is reflected in both initial sales and, later on, in resale values for these premium sports vehicles.
"We've created a niche for locally tuned performance vehicles. This has been made possible through continued support from Fuji Heavy Industries and our local engineers who spend months testing and perfecting these vehicles for Australian conditions."
The Liberty GT STI is available in two colours: 'Obsidian Black' -- with a limited number featuring charcoal wheels -- and 'Brilliant Silver' with brushed silver wheels.
Only 300 STI-tuned Libertys will be produced.
