The first of Dodge’s ‘Last Call’ special-edition Challengers and Chargers has debuted in the United States, in the form of the 2023 Dodge Challenger Shakedown.
Limited to just 1000 units, the Shakedown is directly inspired by the 2016 Dodge Shakedown Challenger concept and uses the existing Challenger R/T Scat Pack as its basis, with a few niceties from some of the standard car’s option packs thrown in.
The headline acts of the Shakedown are its ‘Mopar Shaker’ bonnet scoop, bespoke ‘Shakedown’ decals and badging, red six-piston Brembo front brake callipers, red and black interior colour scheme, leather and Alcantara upholstery, unique grille badging and dark-finish 20-inch alloy wheels.
Half of the 1000-unit production run will be finished in ‘Destroyer Grey’ while the other half will be ‘Pitch Black’ and fitted with a factory widebody kit with wider alloy wheels to match.
Despite the more menacing appearance, no changes have been made to the R/T Scat Pack’s standard 362kW/658Nm 6.4-litre Hemi V8 or the six-speed manual transmission it’s paired to.
“Dodge ‘Last Call’ special edition models celebrate the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger, which in their current form are coming to an end,” Dodge said in a statement.
“Six special-edition Challenger and Charger models will be revealed through September 21, 2022. The seventh and final 2023 Dodge model – the very last of its kind – will be revealed at the 2022 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, scheduled for November 1-4, 2022.”
Dodge’s monstrous muscle cars will lose their thunderous V8s and officially transition across to full battery-electric powertrains for their next generation.
The iconic Dodge twins won’t go completely silent, however. Dodge used the recent reveal of its Dodge Charger Daytona SRT concept to debut what it calls a ‘Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust’ system – a throttle-influenced sound generator designed to make future zero-emission performance cars from the brand sound as fast as they will be.
