Customers shopping for a Subaru Impreza RS hatch have the opportunity to add a little WRX mojo without the full price impost, via the "wheel deal" limited edition model that has just gone on sale.
At a manufacturer's list price starting at $29,980 for the manual version -- $990 on top of the usual price of $28,990 -- the limited-edition RS adds 17-inch WRX alloy wheels, leather trim with red WRX stitching and a leather-trimmed steering wheel -- also with red stitching -- to elevate it above regular RS models.
The limited edition RS is on sale now, in "WR" blue (for the first time in a non-WRX Impreza, according to Subaru), black or white, and with the choice of either five-speed manual or four-speed auto transmission. It comes only in hatch form and a mere 300 examples will be available at Subaru dealers around the country.
The limited edition RS follows Subaru's announcement less than two weeks ago of a 1000-strong, leather-trimmed limited edition run of Impreza R sedans and hatches due to go on sale in April.
Subaru could do with an Impreza sales hike right now. The model is languishing in third spot behind strong-selling Forester and Liberty ranges -- 28.4 per cent down, according to VFACTS year-to-date figures, on 2009 sales.
