Porsche is reviving the 911 T, a variant originally developed back in the late 1960s.
The modern-day 911 Carrera T will adhere to the 'Touring' concept, delivering lighter weight, rear-wheel drive, a closer-ratio manual transmission and a mechanical differential lock – for a price in Australia of $238,400.
Staying with the 272kW/450Nm flat six of the standard 911 Carrera, the new variant rides 20mm lower and features optimised Sport Chrono Package, a shortened shift throws with red shift pattern and Sport-Tex seat centres. According to Porsche the car's power-to-weight ratio is improved and the 0-100km/h time is 4.5 seconds – a gain of 0.1 seconds. Fuel consumption is 9.5L/100km.
For the sake of weight reduction, the 911 Carrera T is fitted with rear and rear/side windows made from lightweight glass and the doors open from inside by hauling on loops rather than conventional handles. The rear seat has also been removed; so too is much of the car's sound-insulating material. Porsche claims that the weight savings amount to 20kg, lowering the Carrera T's kerb mass (unladen) to 1425kg.
Identifying features of the 911 Carrera T include the legend along the lower flanks and badging on the engine cover at the rear. Additionally, there are external mirrors finished in Agate Grey Metallic, a front lip spoiler and 20-inch Carrera S wheels finished in 'Titan Grey'. Porsche will offer Australian customers a range of exterior colours, comprising: Black, Lava Orange, Guards Red, Racing Yellow, White, Miami Blue, and metallic colours Carrara White, Jet Black and GT Silver.
Inside, the 911 Carrera T is presented in black 'Sport-Tex' fabric for the sports seats, which are adjustable in four ways. The shorter shift lever is complemented by the shift pattern outlined in red – an exclusive feature of the 911 Carrera T, which also comes with a leather-bound GT sports steering wheel and drive mode switch.
