Lotus Emira four-cylinder detailed

Specs released for the four-pot version of Lotus’ final combustion-engined model

Details of the four-cylinder version of the 2022 Lotus Emira have finally been released in the UK, revealing an output of 268kW/430Nm plus a series of unique styling touches for the final combustion-engined model from the British car-maker.

Priced from £71,995 ($A129,530) plus on-road costs in its home market, the Lotus Emira First Edition four-cylinder is an even £4000 cheaper than the six-cylinder version – which will start from $184,990 in Australia.

The four-cylinder’s local pricing and specification details are still to be confirmed.

The engine in question is a bespoke version of the M139 turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine seen on the Mercedes-AMG A 45 hot hatch. (The A 45 S sold in Australia produces 310kW/500Nm.)

The only transmission available in the Emira four-pot is an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic developed in collaboration with AMG and featuring an exclusive shift logic.

Buyers will be able to choose between a Touring or Sport chassis tune depending on their intended use of the car, with the latter predictably being the stiffer and more aggressive set-up.

The Sport chassis also offers the choice of Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport tyres (default on the Touring) or stickier Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber.

Regardless of tyre selection, the four-cylinder version will roll on 20-inch alloy wheels and flaunt a couple of unique cosmetic touches like a bespoke engine cover to help it stand out from its pricier sibling, with which it shares most of its standard equipment.

That includes heated 12-way power-adjustable sports seats, climate control, cruise control, keyless start, voice control and a 10.25-inch infotainment system featuring smartphone mirroring, Bluetooth, DAB digital radio and sat-nav.

There’s also LED exterior lights, a titanium exhaust finisher, heated power-fold door mirrors, parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring, automatic wipers, auto-dimming mirrors and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Upholstery choices comprise red, black, grey or tan Nappa leather or black Alcantara with red, yellow or grey stitching. All options are paired with a black Alcantara headliner.

Like the V6, six exterior colours – Seneca Blue, Magma Red, Hethel Yellow, Dark Verdant, Shadow Grey and Nimbus Grey – are available.

In terms of any subsequent Emira and Emira V6 variants, a Lotus spokesperson said the full specification levels of the base model “will be announced later this year”, with deliveries beginning early next year.

“The entry-level Emira V6 will be launched in January 2023 and will cost £64,995 ($A116,895),” the spokesperson said.

“More details on both models, including the full spec and options pricing, will be made available this (British) summer. Online customer reservations will start at the same time.”
