Lotus Exige S arrives Down Under
New supercharged Exige marks beginning of new Lotus push in AustraliaLotus has announced the arrival of its cracking new Exige S sports car in Australia, priced at $119,900 plus on-road costs.
Offering supercar-style performance without the high pricetag, the diminutive Exige S is powered by a supercharged 3.5-litre petrol V6 offering 257.5kW of power and 400Nm of torque.
Combined with a kerb weight of less than 1200kg – less than many small hatchbacks – the result is 0-100km/h acceleration in less than four seconds, 0-160km/h in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 274kmh.
The mid-engined Exige S coupe is fitted with the three-mode Lotus Dynamic Performance Management (DPM) system, which allows drivers to switch between Touring, Sport and DPM off settings.
In addition, a Race Pack option will offer a fourth mode (Race) for serious circuit work, providing maximum traction and a launch control function, plus optimised suspension tune.
Braking is via AP Racing four-piston callipers gripping 350mm ventilated and cross-drilled front discs and 322mm solid rear discs, supported by the latest four-channel ABS anti-lock braking system.

“Anyone who has ever driven an Exige on the track will tell you that it’s not for the faint-hearted. The new Exige S skips a few rungs on the ladder to give the driver the ultimate Lotus experience.
“And, as with all Lotus sports cars, it comes at a remarkable price which is, indeed, the only thing that separates it from other supercars.”
As we reported a month ago, the Exige S will be followed by a bevy of new Lotus models that could be on sale here as soon as late next year.
While the current Elise and Evora are expected back in local showrooms within a month, a replacement for the former is expected to be followed by all-new Esprit, Elan, Eterne and Elite models, as seen at the 2010 Paris motor show.
Under the custodianship of local distributor European Automotive Imports, which expects to sell 70 vehicles this year, Lotus will add a sixth Australian dealership within a few months, in Sydney.
