Lotus gives Exige huge aero
Track-ready Exige Cup 380 generates 200kg of downforce for quicker lap timesLotus has revealed a new tracked-focused version of its Exige that features a completely redesigned aero that has been tuned for maximum downforce.
The changes include the introduction of front louvres, aero blades, a revised rear diffuser and a huge spoiler in a bid to boost aerodynamic efficiency over the standard Exige Sport 380.
The updates are extensive with engineers even go so far as to introduce a revised windscreen wiper in the pursuit of wind-bending.
The result is an extra 200kg of downforce at its maximum 282km/h top speed (-6km/h less than the Sport 380).
To help capitalise on the extra mechanical grip the small Exige gets 20mm wider rear tyres.
Under the one-piece composite tailgate lies the regular Sport 380's Toyota-sourced supercharged 3.5-litre V6 that produces 276kW/410Nm.
Weighing in at just 1075kg, the Cup 380 has also been on a diet with Lotus shedding 6.5kg over the Sport 380 - the reduction comes from carbon-fibre body parts and the deletion of the gas struts for the one-piece tailgate.
That lack of weight translates into a 0-100km/h time of just 3.4 seconds - 0.3secs quicker than the car it's based on.
Just 60 Cup 380s will be sold globally. It's not known if Australian buyers will be offered the car. In the UK, the latest big downforce Exige sells for £83,000 (A$140,000).
