Lotus launches bespoke division

Lotus has launched a new special operations division dubbed Lotus Advanced Performance (LAP) that has been created to develop one-off sports cars and limited-run specials.

Set to be headed up by the former boss of Aston Martin Q, Simon Lane, Lotus has released a preview image of what looks like an open-wheel track car that draws plenty of inspiration from an historic Formula 1 car.

There's no confirmation on what powers it, but it's thought the first Lotus Advanced Performance project could get a conventional internal combustion powertrain – something that is hinted at by the dual chrome pipes and the suggestion of a radiator and air intake.

As well as one-offs, LAP will also help owners personalise series-production models like the Lotus Emira, including creating bespoke colours, trims and unique materials.

LAP has confirmed it will produce a special take on the Emira that will be launched in the coming weeks.

Once introduced, LAP will create a global support program for the Emira GT4 customer race series.

A Lotus Driving Academy track tuition program will also be launched at locations around the world, including one at the car-maker's Hethel HQ.

"Working in tandem with the hugely experienced Lotus Design team, and colleagues in our engineering teams around the world, we are going to build the most exciting and exclusive Lotus cars, embracing our exciting electrified future while also honouring our illustrious past," he said.
