Lowndesy’s Ford Falcon supercar set to break auction records

Ex-Craig Lowndes #888 Supercar expected to fetch more than $600K when it goes under the hammer this weekend

An iconic piece of motorsport history will go under the hammer this Sunday evening, when Craig Lowndes’ #888 Ford Falcon race car goes to auction.

The Aussie motorsport legend announced his retirement as a full-time Supercar driver in 2018, after an illustrious career that saw him notch up seven Bathurst 1000 wins, three V8 Supercar Championships, more than 600 race starts and 100 first-place finishes.

Now, the Ford BF Falcon he drove to multiple podium finishes during his nine-year stint with Ford (2001-2009) before returning to Holden is tipped to sell for more than $600,000 when the final hammer drops this Sunday (March 27) at 7:00pm (AEST).

Bidding in the online auction currently stands at $135K and Lloyds Auctions chief operations officer, Lee Hames, said the car has piqued the interest of both Holden and Ford fans, with enquiries from right across the country.

“It’s not every day you get to own a Supercar driven by one of the sport’s most respected and iconic names in motor racing,” he said.

“We have sold many iconic race cars in recent months. We sold Walkinshaw Andretti United’s winning supercar driven by Chaz Mostert back in September which sold for $600K under the hammer, so we won’t be surprised if Craig Lowndes’ V8 breaks the next motor racing record.”

Fitted with fully-specced 5.0-litre V8 Supercar engine paired to a six-speed Hollinger sequential gearbox, the #888 Vodafone Falcon first debuted at the 2008 Adelaide Clipsal 500 and has since been raced by the likes of James Moffat (2009), Tim Blanchard (2010), Ryan Simpson (2013/14) and most recently, Thomas Randle in 2017.

In 2020, its original Vodafone livery was revived and remains that way today.

Lloyds is prepping for a big weekend, with other race cars up for grabs including Russel Ingall's 2000 Castrol V8 Supercar and a 2012 Custom RM11 Formula 1000 SPEC.

“We have an incredible line-up of over 500 classic cars, race cars, digicar classic NFTs, electric cars, pinball machines and mancave collectables going under the hammer over our Grand Carmada weekend event,” said Hames.
