Lucid Motors has been caught secretly developing a full-size pick-up based on its Gravity SUV, with a leaked image of what looks like a clay model surfacing on the EV-maker’s fan forum.
The unofficial and unverified photo, posted to the Lucid Forum, apparently shows a clay model of the unnamed Lucid pick-up sitting on a palette beside a late-stage development version of the incoming Lucid Gravity SUV.
Its emergence triggered rumours that Lucid could reveal its answer to the Tesla Cybertruck and Ford F-150 Lightning at the LA motor show later this week, but the US car-maker has not publicly commented on leaked pic.
Clearly related – at least in terms of design – to the incoming Gravity SUV that’s so far only been officially teased, the new truck features far smoother styling and a shorter bonnet than any current dual-cab.
There’s no word on whether the pick-up will ride on the same monocoque-style platform as the Lucid Air limousine and Gravity SUV, or if it will be based on a more rugged ladder-frame chassis like those favoured by its potential rivals, which would offer higher payload and towing capacities.
Either way, expect the large Lucid utility to come with a big 118kWh battery and a dual-motor powertrain with huge levels of power and torque.
In the last Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance we tested, the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQS rival produced an incredible 829kW and 1390Nm, but since then the Californian-based firm has teased the Lucid Air Sapphire that incorporates an advanced rear-axle set-up that, alone, produces up to 1000kW, suggesting a combined output well north of that when combined with the front axle’s output.
Stay tuned because we might hear more about the Lucid Motors pick-up on Friday our time, when a concept could be unwrapped at the LA motor show.
