Indian car maker Mahindra has launched its new Black mHawk Pik-Up dual-cab turbo-diesel ute, a vehicle specifically tailored for the Aussie market.
Accessories are generating big bucks for car brands that sell utes and hero packs like this one are now more common than a sore throat in winter.
The Mahindra Black mHawk Pik-Up will be limited to just 50 units initially, priced at $38,990 drive-away, which is around $7000 more than the pricing for the standard models.
Special features include 17-inch alloy wheels with a dark finish, black side steps, black wheel arch protectors, a black bull bar and alloy sports bar – also in black. There's even a black sticker pack.
Based on the Mahindra S10 Pik-Up, the Black mHawk comes with climate control, a 6.0-inch infotainment screen with reversing camera and satellite navigation, plus automatic wipers and headlights.
Motive force for the four-wheel drive ute is provided by a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine (103kW/330Nm), which is paired with a standard-issue six-speed manual transmission and locking diff.
Mahindra Australia's National Manager, Ankit Taneja, said the new model was "Designed in Australia, for Australian conditions".
"We are very excited to announce that this is the first time that Mahindra has offered a limited-edition vehicle to the Australian public," said Taneja.
The Indian brand, which also owns Korea's third-largest car maker, SsangYong, has also announced the Tradie Pack ute deal. The single-cab S6 4x2 ute with the Tradie Pack is still priced at $23,990 drive-away, but adds a tow-bar, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and an aluminium tray with a built-in ladder rack.
There's also a 4x4 Single Cab S6 turbo-diesel model for $26,990 drive-away and it gets a free GPA tray valued at around $2000.
The Mahindra utes have a one-tonne tray payload and a 2.5-tonne braked towing capacity, about 1000kg less than the norm. They are covered by a five-year warranty with road-side assist.
It's not clear how many Mahindra vehicles are out on the road in Australia. The company has previously stated that it will post sales numbers to VFACTS once it reaches 1000 annual sales.
